AboutKidz was established in 2010 when a small group of volunteers wanted to make a difference in the lives of at-risk and low-income elementary aged children in our local community. We wanted to implement programs that met their practical needs but we also wanted to make them feel welcomed, cared for, encouraged, and supported. We wanted to connect with the kids and their caregivers on a personal and emotional level.

During our first year we helped 125 children have a successful first day of school when we gave them backpacks filled with school supplies. We called that program First Day and it has grown to the point where we distributed more than 1,000 backpacks in August 2023.

To further the educational opportunities and success of local kids, we established the Graduation Day program in 2017, through which we provide free tutoring twice a week to help with homework, reading, writing, and math.

Physical activity through organized sports strengthens the body, sharpens the mind, and teaches valuable lifelong skills like teamwork and cooperation. Unfortunately, low-income and at-risk kids rarely have the opportunity to participate in organized sports. We established the Game Day program in 2017 and we currently sponsor multiple sports teams for these kids.

All kids deserve a special and happy holiday season but all situations do not allow for that experience. In 2020, we implemented the Great Christmas Giveaway where we organize toy drives and distribute those toys to families in need. More than 200 children received toys in December 2023 via the Big Christmas Giveaway.

AboutKidz is a 501(c)(3) organization established to meet the practical needs for underprivileged children in our communities in an effort to create equal opportunities for academic and athletic excellence. We focus on addressing the most basic needs of low-income and at-risk children in order to make the biggest impact on families in our community.
